Becoming Sustainable – Facilities Plan Update

THE BECOMING SUSTAINABLE: FACILITIES PLAN UPDATE PUBLIC CONSULTATION HAS ENDED. THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On September 16, 2015, Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools launched Becoming Sustainable: Facilities Plan Update – a public consultation process where the Board of Education asked for feedback on district programs, the proposed closures of one secondary school and two elementary schools, as well as the proposed relocation of Learn@Home K-7 and 8-12. The consultation ended on November 15, 2015.

The proposed Becoming Sustainable plan focuses on school closures and consolidation which will allow the district to reduce annual operating costs, reduce future capital expenses and identify capital assets for future consideration. In doing so, the proposed plan will enable the district’s limited resources to be better directed towards student learning.

The 60-day process included an online survey, five public meetings, two public presentation evenings, and a community stakeholder meeting. There will be a number of Business Committee and Special Board meetings to discuss the consultation findings.

We’ve received your feedback and heard from many of you at our public meetings. The Board appreciates your participation!

Yours Truly,

Steve Rae
Board Chair
