Transportation update for the 2017-18 school year
The Board recently approved a new Transportation Policy on November 23, 2016. The previous policy was outdated as it relied on a Ministry of Education (MoE) policy that no longer exists.
The province of BC does not provide targeted funding for transportation. Across the province, districts have proposed changes to transportation in an effort to realize savings or to redirect funds back into the classroom.
District staff have indicated that there will be no changes in bus routes for the 2017-18 school year.
On December 14, 2016, Superintendent John Blain and Assistant Superintendent Bob Esliger presented a draft of Administrative Procedure 512 – Transportation.
On January 18, 2017, Superintendent John Blain presented the updated draft of AP 512 – Transportation.
At the January 18, 2017 Business Committee meeting, the Committee recommended that the Board enter into a 30-day notice of motion. The Board will vote at the Regular Board meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.
On January 25, 2017, the Board entered into a 30-day notice of motion at which time the public provided feedback on AP 512 – Transportation. The consultation period ended on Friday, February 24, 2017.
