Sharon Welch spent 26 years teaching music to students of all ages and abilities. She has worked with special needs, gifted, and physically challenged students. She served as the Education Director of a music academy with 800 students and 20 teachers. She has a Masters Degree in Leadership, an Advanced Certificate in Management Studies, and holds the CHRP (Certified Human Resources Professional) designation.

In addition to her responsibilities as Trustee, Sharon worked at the Downtown Community Policing and Services Office and now works at a local employment agency. She has served the community through a variety of roles in Toastmasters (including Area Governor) and through her work on the Boards of the Nanaimo Arts Council and Citizens Advocacy Association. She is currently Chair of the Nanaimo Working Group on Homelessness and a member of the Rotary Club of Nanaimo.

Sharon is committed to the well-rounded development of all public school students in Nanaimo and Ladysmith. She believes that building positive, collaborative relationships within the School District and with external partners is the key to success for SD68.
