French Immersion in SD68

B.C. has the fourth-largest student population in French programs (including French Immersion in Canada) after Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick  There are 40,000 students enrolled in French immersion across B.C.  In Nanaimo-Ladysmith, there are more than 1,200 students in the French Immersion program, Kindergarten to Grade 12.  

Students enter French Immersion in Kindergarten or Grade One.  

French Immersion is offered at four elementary schools in School District 68:

  • École Davis Road School - French Immersion was introduced at Davis Road in the fall of 2004.  Davis Road is a dual-track school, with 140 students in French Immersion and 109 students in the regular English program, Kindergarten-Grade 7.  Phone 250 245-7187

École Hammond Bay School - Hammond Bay is a single-track French Immersion school, meaning that the immersion program is the only one offered at the school.  Currently there are 348 students in Kindergarten-Grade 7.  Phone 250 758-5711

  • École Pauline Haarer School - Pauline Haarer is a single-track French Immersion school with 242 students in Kindergarten to Grade 7. Phone 250 754-2722

  • École Quarterway School - Quarterway is a dual-track school with 274 students in French Immersion and 98 students in the regular English program, Kindergarten to Grade 7.  Phone 250 754-6845

  • Secondary students continue their French Immersion studies at École Secondaire Nanaimo District.  There are 266 French Immersion students in Grades 8-12 at this school.

 

Registration Information

In-district and out-of-district French Immersion registration will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 until Friday, March 16, 2012.

You must register at one school only, but may indicate a second choice. 

Spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to students who have a sibling already registered in the school. 

Spaces may be available after the spring registration period.  Call the school of your choice for more information.

École Davis Road School - Wednesday, February 22:  6 to 7 p.m.

École Hammond Bay School - Wednesday, February 15: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

École Pauline Haarer School - Monday, February 13:  6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

École Quarterway School - Thursday, February 16: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
