Kudos to Michael Moynihan at Cedar Elementary who is one of only two teachers in the district working with SET BC on a class project. This year, Grade 5 students are using Chrome books and Google classroom. The goal is to use technology, specifically Google Read and Write, to support differentiated learning in the classroom. The students will increase reading fluency, comprehension and vocabulary and build a stronger class culture. They are using headsets with built in microphones and privacy carrels on their desks. The students and teacher are excited and engaged early in the school year! Mrs. Barb Niell-St.Clair, alongside volunteers from staff and students raised $837.55 recently during a Freezie and Cheesie Sale. The proceeds raised go towards helping a Rutherford family with a child at Ronald MacDonald House who is getting treatment for a serious illness. This is one of many activities going on in the community to support this family and it shows the true generosity of the Rutherford community. At the sale there were $50 and $100 dollar donations as well as children giving the change from their piggy banks to buy a freezie and donate to a good cause. The way this school and community has rallied around this family is heart-warming and something to be very proud of. A huge shout out to the Barsby/CTC/NDSS/VAST staff, the tradespeople, cartage department and facilities planners who all worked very hard with challenging time constraints to make the Learning Alternatives move from NDSS to Barsby as pleasant and efficient that it could be. The quality of the work and speed in which it was accomplished did not go unnoticed.
