Page 13 Teachers Janelle Mould and Pam Puska attended the Canadian Forum on Public Education ‘Safe and Caring Schools’ this summer in Edmonton as part of their professional development. They were fortunate to hear keynote speaker and winner of the 2017 Global Teacher Prize Award, Maggie MacDonnell. Seen here the two are holding the trophy, which Janelle refers to as the Nobel Prize of teaching. A big thanks and appreciation to Ken the bus driver for Cedar schools. The other day there was a black bear on the road just up from my son’s bus stop. Ken asked my son to return to the bus to make sure he got home safe. Ken also drops my daughter off closer to home now that her brother is in high school. He has been wonderful to my kids, making sure they get home safe every day. It does not go unnoticed and I sincerely appreciate what he does. Thank you! 68 Hoorays goes out to Kevin Erhart from Facilities for his talents rebuilding his 1968 GMC. It’s a beauty! The truck was taken down to the bare frame and rebuilt back up; even the drive train is completely rebuilt. He also built a 1947 Willys and thanks his Power Mechanics & Metal Work classes at John Barsby and NDSS for his mechanical skills. The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation (NLSF) is about to receive more than $10,000 thanks to the 100 Men Nanaimo Community. Board Chair Steve Rae attended his first meeting recently and his charity of choice, NLSF, was chosen to receive the quarterly donation.
