b'68 HOORAYSA big hooray goes out to Coach Aaron Bruce, a teacher at NDSS, who has tirelessly supported and coached the School District 68 Wrestling Club.The wrestling club involves elementary and secondary students from Grades 4 to 12.This year, there were athletes from 19 different schools from Nanaimo-Ladysmith.Coach Bruces dedication directly lead to two of our senior athletes finishing in the top four in the province.Thanks for all you do, Aaron. Nanaimo Wrestlers at ProvincialsCongratulations to our six high school athletes that qualified for the BC High School Wrestling Provincials held in Langley in February:Matthias Lacombe (Wellington), Logan Laver (Ladysmith), Natasha Kaktins (NDSS), Marcus Copp (NDSS), Sam Colyn (Dover), and Colby Young (Dover).A special congratulations goes out to Natasha Kaktins who placed fourth in the province, and Colby Young who placed third in the province. A few of the athletes will be competing in the National Championships in Edmonton, Alberta this Aprilgood luck, wrestlers.The coaches are proud of the efforts of all the athletes in a very challenging sport;Dan Gable once said, Once youve wrestled, everything else in life is easy.The team would also like to give a big call out of thanks to School Trustee Bill Robinson who presented medals at the Island Championships. 68 Hoorays goes out the many staff who were collaborating with VIU on the Culture Collage project:Maureen ArabksyChase River, Sofia La BountyFairivew, Linda BaldwinRanderson Ridge. The project involved three classrooms and 60 students in Grades 2, 3, and 4.The Elementary District Life Skills received a grant that has provided them with an opportunity to go to the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music for weekly music lessons.Theyve been singing, playing musical games, and enjoying a variety of instruments.Its been a great opportunity to develop musical awareness and build community with the class.
