Students continue learning in the summer. Summer Theatre + Academics is a Learn@Home course that mixes live class with online learning. Throughout July, students participated in an intensive one-month program which included daily in school rehearsals culminating in the performance of the one-act play “I Never Saw Another Butterfly.” The performance will take place on July 30 and 31 at the Bailey Studio. While participating in the production, students also worked on an English class that integrated theatre analysis into the curriculum.
“I Never Saw Another Butterfly” is based on the poetry created in a concentration camp (Terezin) by the Jewish children of Prague. Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, and only about a hundred were still alive when Terezin was liberated at the end of the war. Raja Englanderova lived through it all at Terezin. This play is her story. It is history as much as any play can be history, showing the best and the worst of which the human heart is capable.
Tickets are available at the door for $5. Doors open at 6:30, the show begins at 7 p.m.
