Page 12 Want to share a 68 Hoorays in the next ConnectEd? 68HOORAYS A shout out to long-time employee Danny Kulai! Danny started working in the district in 1969 – in December, he will celebrate a milestone – 50 years with NLPS. He was originally hired as a bus driver but was too young to get his Class 2 driver’s license so he cleaned and fueled up buses until he was able to get his Class 2. Danny completed a mechanical apprenticeship in the shop and then went on to be one of the district’s couriers until retirement in 2003. Since retirement, Danny has been working for the district as a casual bus driver and courier/cartage person. He is a valuable employee who regularly goes above and beyond for his employer and co- workers. My husband Rick , myself and son, Tomas extend our sincere thanks for the wonderful opportunities afforded Tomas by the Career Pathways program. Tomas, now 21, entered the apprenticeship program after completing Grade 11 at NDSS. He successfully completed his Grade 12 studies while enrolled in the Culinary Arts Professional Cook Level 1 (PC 1) certificate program at VIU. Tomas has completed the PC 2 diploma program and will begin the PC 3 program in January 2020. He will also spend the month of July in Japan, participating in an international youth exchange program. All this happy news is grounded in the opportunity, support and encouragement that Tomas received from Mr. Beeston, the dedicated Career Pathways team and NDSS counsellor Mrs. Gates. We are confident that your ongoing efforts will continue to assist many students to find their pathway to success. (Lynette Jackson) Page 12
