The Nanaimo-Ladysmith Schools Foundation (NLSF) is settling into their new space in the former Meeting Room B at NDSS. This summer, the Foundation moved to the new location in order to make space at John Barsby to accommodate the CTC program, Learning Alternatives and Continuing Education. Stock the Lockers, one of the many initiatives the Foundation organizes, recently wrapped up this year’s campaign. The Foundation and its partners raisedalmost$40,000tosupportstudentsinneed. NLSF Executive Director Crystal Dennison said, “The support from the community goes a long way to assist our vulnerable students. Thanks for making this year’s campaign a huge success! The Foundation continues to raise funds throughout the year to ensure students receive the support they need to be successful.” Not only did the community come up big with donations, Coastal Community Credit Union’s (CCCU) five locations raised more than $15,000 for the Foundation. In addition to employees and members raising the large sum of money, they added a fun challenge this year. As an internal challenge CCCU’s managers volunteered to bungee jump for the cause if they raised more than $7,500 and Foundation leader Dennison would have to if they raised $10,000. On Sunday, September 17, NLSF’s fearless leader, Dennison joined the managers at WildPlay’s Nanaimo location, as they jumped 150 feet towards the Nanaimo River. Looks like Dennison will do nearly anything for a cause – even if it takes her out of her comfort zone. Great to have your spirit leading the Foundation!
