John Barsby Football Program By Rob Stevenson The John Barsby Football Program had a hec of a season in 2018! The program really lived up to its philosophical marching orders Try Your Hardest! Get Better Each Day! Do The Right Thing! This past season began way back in November of 2017 after the final whistle of a hard fought, tough road loss in the Varsity BC Quarter-Final Game. ThereturningJVandVarsityplayers immediately re-dedicated themselves to be their best. The program hit the weight-room hard the following week and used every opportunity available to work on basic fundamental skills throughout January and February. Many played other sports which honed transferrable skills and kept a sharp competitive edge. Spring 7 on 7 passing/ touchfootballensuedinAprilandearlyMay. Ten geared program practices culminated in in an early June Jamboree which gave everyone a good look at progress to date. Summer weights followed and then pre- season program practices at the end of August, where heat, sweat, smoke and yes, some blood forged a tight knit, fighting unit. No quarter was given in this arena and none asked for. The season saw our JV’s embrace the toughest AA JV schedule in the province with four straight weeks of competition against AAA sized schools. Skills were honed along with an unbreakable fighting mind-set which paid dividends in the form of an undefeated conference regular season and first place in the toughest AA JV division of play. The JV squad eventually mettheirmatchagainstthe2018provincial champions in the BC Semi-Final round of play. Our Varsity played outstanding, competitive ball throughout the season winding-up tied for first place in the AA Page 7
