Page 13 Grade 7 students from Cedar Elementary have been busy collecting canned/non-perishable food items to help support local Cedar families as well as through Hamperville via the Salvation Army in Nanaimo. The school hosted a guest speaker who talked to the students about homelessness and hunger. He was able to share from personal experience as well as experience from previous employment as an ambulance attendant. He shared details about ways people become homeless, why we need to support these people, and how much of an impact students can have by donating items to the food bank and hampers. Students have learned that people need more than just food (soaps, shampoo, deodorant, etc). After Christmas, students will be completing a budgeting unit by visiting a local grocery store and 68 HOORAYS purchasing foods to again create hampers for local families. 68 Hoorays go out to Front Runners’ Norm Thibault and Course Organizer Lonny Sullivan at Beban Park this fall, during the small school zone cross country meet. Good job and thanks to Front Runners and their team for the continued support! Holiday Edition
