Our new school district tagline.
Last school year, we asked our elementary and high school students to tell us what going to school in Nanaimo Ladysmith meant to them by creating a postcard. We received more than 4,000 postcards from students across the district that shared some pretty common themes: friendship, belonging, being in nature, learning, personal growth, inclusion, kindness…and recess.
From that inspiration and with NLPS staff feedback, we are thrilled to share our new district tagline: Belong. Grow. Thrive.
The NLPS tagline is our commitment to students and each other—to create a school district where everyone can feel proud to be part of the journey. Here’s what it looks like in our schools:
Belong
The spirit of belonging is cultivated by relationships of trust. To belong means you are welcomed and appreciated for who you are. We aspire to have every student and staff member feel connected to others and the world around them.
Grow
For students, growing means to embrace a well-rounded education that inspires them to discover their potential. For staff, growing involves developing professionally and deepening our knowledge to enhance the education system to support student learning.
Thrive
Only when we belong and grow can we truly thrive — in our learning journeys, in our well-being, and in life. Thriving means to do well or flourish. It is about being fulfilled, confident, and engaged as a responsible citizen of the local territory and global community.
We are excited to start the new school year with a tagline that reflects the heart of who we are as a school district and the kind of community we strive to build together. Belong. Grow. Thrive. supports our day-to-day focus as well as the goals of our Strategic Plan.
