Secondary Academies

Secondary specialized academies provide students with an opportunity to pursue their areas of interest while completing their academic studies 

Be sure to complete and attach the District Secondary Academy Player and/or Performer Statement Form to your online registration (available starting January 10, 2024). An online registration is required, even if your child is/will be attending an academy school.

District Secondary Academy Registrations for the 2024-2025 school year will be accepted between January 10 and March 1, 2024.  Registrations must be completed and received by Central Registration by March 1, 2024.  Registrations that are not fully completed will not be considered for entrance to the program.  Acceptance into an Academy may be contingent on a students’ record of behaviour and attendance in the past school year.

Hockey Academy

Located at Nanaimo District Secondary School.

The vision of the academy is a formal training program within the school day. A typical week includes one gym workout, three on-ice sessions, and one classroom session, with a commitment to excellence in student achievement.

    Lacrosse Academy

    Located at Nanaimo District Secondary School.

    Open to Grades 8-12 students with previous lacrosse experience. Entry into program will be done by evaluations and application.

      Located at Nanaimo District Secondary School

        Located at Wellington Secondary School

        The NLPS Jazz Academy at Wellington provides the opportunity to achieve excellence in an intensive music education program in a supportive instrumental and vocal Jazz setting.

          Beach Volleyball Academy

          Located at Nanaimo District Secondary School.

          The NLPS Beach Volleyball Academy will focus on both technical and tactical skill development of individual athletes in the sport of beach volleyball.
