Local By-Election – School Trustee

The Local By-Election will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022. 


The Local By-Election will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Elections and by-elections are conducted according to the rule and regulations set out in the Local Government Act which governs government elections throughout British Columbia.


Candidates shall be nominated in writing by two duly qualified electors of School District No. 68 (Nanaimo-Ladysmith). The nomination documents shall be in the form prescribed in the Local Government Act and shall state the name and residence of the person nominated in such a manner as to sufficiently identify such candidate.


Those interested in running as a School Trustee candidate in the 2022 Trustee By-Election can download a School Trustee Nomination Package. If you wish to pick up a nomination package, you can do so starting Monday, November 22, 2021 at 8 a.m. at the District Administration Centre (395 Wakesiah Avenue, Nanaimo).

Packages will be available for pick and online until 4 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021.

To be eligible as a candidate in a local government election, at the time of nomination, you must:

  1. Be a Canadian citizen; AND
  2. Be, or will be, 18 years of age or older on or before voting day (January 15, 2022); AND
  3. Having lived in BC for at least six months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; AND
  4. Have not been disqualified by any law or statue from being nominated, elected or holding office.

There is no requirement for a candidate to be a resident or own property in the electoral area.
