Joint statement from CUPE 606, Nanaimo District Teachers’ Association and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools on the tragedy in Tumbler Ridge
Our hearts go out to everyone in the community of Tumbler Ridge and specifically the staff, students, and families at School District 59- Peace River South. CUPE 606, the Nanaimo District Teachers’ Association and Nanaimo Ladysmith Public schools is deeply saddened, and we extend our condolences to everyone who has been impacted by the uncomprehensible tragedy that took place yesterday.
Together with communities across Canada, we have lowered flags at all schools and buildings across the school district as we mourn the lives lost in this tragic event.
This event is particularly troubling for school communities. Our focus will be on the mental health and wellbeing of our students and staff in the coming days and weeks. Together we will continue to support each other, and our school teams are available for students requiring additional supports and resources. We will continue to keep Tumbler Ridge in our hearts and thoughts and we send them strength as they work towards healing.
