At Park Avenue School, the Community Functional Skills (FUNC) group has been busy exploring and learning through hands-on experiences in the community. This small but mighty group of six students, led by Leslie Baker (IST) and Christine Usborne (CYFSW), focuses on building independence, confidence and essential life skills in real-world settings.
Thanks to the generous support of the PAC, they’ve been able to take the learning beyond the classroom and include activities such as: swimming, fly-o-land, city bus rides and transfers, dining out and playground visits.
Functional Skills Groups are an important part of many of our schools, focusing on supporting the needs of students in many areas, including social thinking, play skills, community safety and English Language Learning vocabulary development.
